LAKE SHORE DRIVE CHURCH OF CHRIST BULLETIN

SEPTEMBER 1, 2010                                            NUMBER 35

EARNESTLY SPEAKING

LEST I FORGET

Lest I forget the death of Him
Who died on the cross for me.
Lest all my memories grow dim
And I forget what set me free.
Lest I overlook the price He paid
When I could ne’er repay the price.
Dear God, let my hope in Him be staid
As in the bread I see the Christ.

Lest I forget His precious blood
So freely shed to pay the cost.
Lest worldly things my mind should flood
And mar the memories of the cross.
Lest I forget the bitter scene
When my dear Lord was lifted up.
Dear God, let Calvary be seen
While I’m partaking of His cup.

Lest I forget the Son Thou gave
That I from bondage might be free.
Lest I forget Thy gift to save
A wretched, sinful man like me.
Lest I forget the sacrifice
Or fullest measure of that love.
Dear God, help me to pay the price
And the sincerity of my love thus prove.

This poem is taped in the front of my Bible. I use it to help remind me of what took place at the cross when I am observing the Lord’s Supper.   May it bless you as it has blessed me.

DALE’S NOTE

I trust in God
I love my country
And will respect its laws
I will play fair
And strive to win
But win or lose
I will always do my best
Above is the pledge that is part of Little League baseball. This past weekend one of my favorite sporting events, the Little League World Series, wrapped up. Little League baseball teams made up of 11, 12 and 13 year olds from all over the world competed to get to Williamsport, PA. Eventually a team from Japan (usually a powerhouse) won.
Look closely at the words to the Little League Pledge. The Little League is more than just about baseball; it’s about teaching boys and in some cases young men the ideals of being true to God, their country and its laws, and to the idea of playing fairly and to the best of their ability.
Kind of sounds like a lesson we could take to heart as Christians. We should love God and his commandments. We should love our country (even with all of its problems) and respect its laws. We should do our best in all situations to represent Christ to the world we live in.
See you Sunday,
Dale
